Art of War

...An interpretation of chapter four, tactical disposition, from Sun Tzu's art of war.

Art of War is an ancient writing on strategic militant practice written by Sun Tzu. Tactical Disposition focused on how a group or individual must place themselves in relationship to another in order to succeed. I wanted to create tension through the use of disposition or displacement of the sentences. The other point of emphasis became a play on the words tactical and tactile. The words focused on achieving the end goal through multiple trials and errors in order to know how one must go through the path to make it to ones overall objective. The design of the maze begins to form a topographic map, further serving as a natural landscape to the texts path. The book not only led to an expansion of how text and image function in my design but also became a physical exploration of materials and their function in relationship to conveying the message.
